Why Slow Adventures Feel Right On A Phone

Why Slow Adventures Feel Right On A Phone

August 12, 2026 · Marek Kowalski

There's a common assumption that mobile games have to be fast and twitchy because people play in short bursts. Games like Hollow Lantern quietly prove the opposite. Slow, atmospheric adventures fit a phone beautifully.

A phone is a personal, intimate screen. You hold it close, often with headphones in, and that closeness suits a moody story far more than a TV across the room. Hollow Lantern's fog-wrapped town felt genuinely eerie in a way I don't think it would on a bigger display.

These games also handle interruptions well. Nothing punishes you for pausing to catch a bus or answer a message. You return, and the mood is still there waiting.

If you've only ever played action games on mobile, try a slow one. It might change how you think about the platform entirely.
